Equity can’t be an “extra”—here’s where to start
February 6, 2026

Too few conversations that center equity are taking place these days. There are many reasons for this. Some make me rage. Some make me hopeful. Like this one a coach shared with me recently:
“Equity matters deeply to me, but I’m not always sure how to bring it into my everyday coaching conversations.”
I’m hopeful when I hear this, because 1) there’s a willingness to do something differently, and 2) I can help bridge that skill gap!
The root of this challenge is that equity work often gets siloed—saved for the PD day, the committee meeting, or the crisis moment. But as we’ll explore in next week’s webinar, that silo is one of the biggest pitfalls we face in pursuit of creating equitable learning environments.
Equity isn’t a separate conversation.
It’s the conversation.
Every time you talk about instruction, data, behavior, teams, systems—you’re talking about equity, whether you say the word or not.
If you want to intentionally bring equity into your everyday conversations, the first step is self-awareness. Our Beyond Good Intentions: The Equity-Centered Coaching Quiz helps show you how you naturally enter equity conversations. Each of us has default patterns—some strengths, some gaps—and knowing yours gives you a starting place for growth.
