Burnout + Retention Strategy

Understand what’s driving burnout—and what you can actually do about it.

A customized consulting engagement led directly by Elena Aguilar for organizations concerned about staff burnout and retention.

You probably already know people are struggling.

Teacher rubbing her eyes at her desk in a classroom, appearing tired and overwhelmed.

You may see it in your exit surveys. Your retention numbers. The conversations leaders are having with staff. Or you may not have the data yet—you just know people are tired.

Knowing there’s a problem is different from knowing what to do about it.

Burnout and retention are rarely caused by a single factor. Workload might be part of the story. So might trust. Clarity. Constant change. Belonging. Leadership. Relationships. Growth. The day-to-day experience of getting your work done.

The question isn’t just: Are people burned out or leaving?

It’s: What is contributing to it here—and what can we change?

WHAT THE ENGAGEMENT HELPS YOU DO

Get clearer about what’s happening—and what to do next.

Understand what people are experiencing

Look beyond “people are burned out” to identify the patterns shaping people’s actual experience of work.

Identify what you can influence

Separate the conditions your organization can address from the realities you can’t simply make disappear.

Know where to
focus first

Turn a complicated set of findings into a small number of meaningful priorities and practical next steps.

How It Works

1

Start with your context

Elena meets with your leadership team to understand what you’re seeing, where you’re most concerned, what you’ve already tried, and what you’re trying to figure out.

2

Look closely at what your people are experiencing

Elena reviews the data you already have. If more information is needed, Bright Morning can administer an anonymous staff survey to better understand the conditions contributing to burnout and retention risk.

3

Look closely at what your people are experiencing

Elena analyzes what she has learned and develops customized findings and recommendations focused on the highest-leverage priorities for your organization.

4

Decide where to go from here

Elena meets with your leadership team to make sense of the findings, examine assumptions, and determine what deserves your attention now—and what should happen next.

You don’t need another report telling you your people are tired.

You need to understand why.

And you need to know which conditions your organization can actually influence.

What You’ll Leave With

A clearer picture of what’s happening

A nuanced understanding of the most significant patterns in your employees’ experience of work.

What’s contributing to those patterns

Insight into what may be contributing to burnout, disengagement, and retention risk in your organization.

3-5 priorities for leadership

A focused set of high-leverage areas organized around what to protect, what to address now, and what to build over time.

Practical recommendations

Clear guidance about what your organization can do itself, where additional expertise may be needed, and what longer-term investments may help.

This May Be Right For You If…

You’re trying to answer questions like:

WHAT's HAPPENING?

Why are people leaving?
Which of the problems we’re seeing can leadership realistically influence?
Why does burnout seem especially acute in certain roles, schools, teams, or parts of our organization?
Where should we invest limited time and resources?

What can we do about it?

What are we missing?
Are the initiatives we’ve already tried addressing the real problem?
We already know people are overwhelmed. What do we actually do about it?
What do our managers, coaches, or leaders need to do differently?

What Our Community is Saying

"I believe learning with Bright Morning is an essential opportunity for any leader. It has significantly contributed to my preparedness and confidence in my leadership role. The resources, discussions, and insights shared are crucial for all team leaders, especially those in the Education field.

I've learned to practice reflecting on my role in terms of what is and isn't within my control. I use expansive listening in my conversations with staff, and I remind myself that the emotional demands of the job require me to check in on myself so I can carry the weight of being a leader.

I recommend learning with Bright Morning to anyone who engages in the complexity of “people work.”

What Our Community is Saying

"Participating in Bright Morning’s workshops has been a meaningful professional learning experience. The sessions have given me tools, language, and frameworks for the deeply human side of leadership. Through exploring trust, emotional intelligence, power, and resistance, I learned that effective leadership isn’t about control or compliance; it’s about connection, compassion, and creating the conditions where people can thrive together.

Bright Morning offerings have provided practical tools to strengthen my leadership practice. Implementing these tools helps me better guide, support, and hold others accountable when harm occurs, while still leading with compassion and care.

Truly coaching, not just managing, is what protects and sustains culture. This work has given me the frameworks and language to build relationships that foster reflective partnership and make difficult conversations possible."

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to administer a new survey?

No. If you already have useful data from staff surveys, exit surveys, focus groups, or other sources, Elena will start there.

If there are important gaps, Bright Morning can administer a customized anonymous staff survey as part of the engagement.

What might we look at?

The engagement is customized to your context. Depending on what you’re trying to understand, Elena may explore workload and capacity, leadership and trust, clarity and priorities, voice and agency, belonging and relationships, support and growth, organizational change, and intent to stay.

Who from our organization should participate?

The engagement begins and ends with a small leadership team that has the authority and context to make sense of the findings and determine what to do next.

How does the credit toward additional Bright Morning work?

If you decide to continue working with Bright Morning, 50% of your investment in the Burnout + Retention Strategy can be applied toward additional work to address needs identified during the engagement.

Does working with Elena mean we’ll be expected to purchase additional Bright Morning services?

No. Recommendations are based on what Elena believes your organization needs. If Bright Morning has an offering that directly addresses an identified need, we’ll let you know. If the right support sits elsewhere, Elena will say that too.
