PD dread

I was scheduling a coaching session with a principal I’m working with, and as we were looking for a date, they kind of groaned when they said next Friday wouldn’t work because they had a school-wide PD.

The principal. The person in charge was even dreading it!

As someone who has groaned many times at PD I had to attend, I know this isn’t an isolated issue.

I also know it’s something we have to change. We cannot be wasting our precious energy. We cannot keep reinforcing the belief that professional learning is a waste of time.

It’s not.

If that’s how it feels for you or your team, you deserve better. And we’re on a mission to make that happen.

We’re all working too hard and have too much to accomplish to spend time in spaces that don’t move us forward, or worse, leave us more drained.

I’ve been in those sessions. You probably have too. But I’ve also been in sessions where something shifts. People connect. They wrestle with ideas. They leave clearer, more grounded, more ready.

That difference is how the space is designed, how it’s led, and how people are invited into the learning.

That’s where we’ve been putting a lot of energy this year.

In addition to PD That Changes Practice, we’re offering Virtual Facilitation in August, for anyone who leads learning online and is tired of awkward silences and cameras off.

We’ve also created a Virtual PD Tech Toolkit, because so much of what makes a session feel smooth and engaging is happening behind the scenes.

And this fall, we’re launching our Facilitation Studio + Certification Program for people who are ready to change what’s possible in professional learning spaces. I can’t put into words how excited I am for this one (especially the small group quarterly Intensives I’m leading!).
